5 Safe and Effective Ways to Reset Tesla

Of course, Tesla is certainly perfect, but it’s essentially a computer, and a computer tends to hang. It’s not common and, fortunately, this happens very rarely with Tesla, but it’s worth considering when you plan to buy your Tesla.

A typical example of such a freeze is Tesla’s frozen main screen. Various reset options are available that gradually reboot more computers and clear the local cache, the most common of these is a simple home screen reboot, also known as a scroll wheel reset, but if the fault is deeper inside the car, such as being bound for autopilot or chargers, one of the biggest drops may be required. It’s also possible that simply leaving the car alone on a few hours will solve the problem, as the car will go into sleep mode and actually partially reboot when you wake it up.

How to restart the host computer

There are several options for reloading the screen. Some of them are possible only during a stop, others are available while the car is moving. However, please do not neglect the safety precautions! It is best if your car is stationary and in a safe place during your manipulation of the screen. This is important for both your safety and the safety of those around you.

All methods described below are recommended by the official company. We don’t recommend that you come up with reboot methods yourself.

So, before rebooting, disconnect all USB devices in order to make sure that all systems will shut down.

  • Option 1: Reset the scroll wheel

Press and hold both wheels of scrolling on either side of the steering wheel for 10 seconds until the main/center screen begins to reboot. During the reboot, you may see the airbag icon on the dashboard (MS and MX only), and the clicks of the indicator will not be heard.

  • Option 2: Top button reboot (MS and MX only)

Press and hold both buttons above the scroll wheels on either side of the steering wheel for 10 seconds, after which the dashboard/driver screen will reboot.

  • Option 3. Reset the configuration

There are other forms of rebooting, but sometimes the problem is that menu items go missing, especially after a software update. It can also help if the car is stuck and doesn’t allow you to select a driving mode. Use the menu to change the size and/or design of the wheels. This will cause the car to want to reboot, let that reboot happen automatically, and then return the wheels to the correct ones if you want and reboot again, though it doesn’t matter. It’s not an elegant solution, but some believe it can solve a number of problems.

  • Option 4: full hard steering wheel and brake pedal

This method is not the most effective, but if you have already tried everything that is offered above – perhaps this is your option.

You need to sit in a car with the doors closed and not open them for the duration of the reboot to perform a hard reset.

      • Put your foot on the brake and keep it there, although some believe that this is not necessary, there will be no harm from this.
      • Now press and hold both buttons above the scroll wheels and the scroll wheel on both sides of the steering wheel (MS and MX). or just scroll wheels (M3 and MY)
      • Hold for up to 10 seconds and the driver’s dashboard/screen will reboot (center screen on M3 and MY).
      • Wait, keep your foot on the brake. Eventually, the screens will reboot.

  • Option 5: Full power off and restart

This is one of the biggest reboots, similar to when you leave the car overnight and shut down naturally. Get in a car with the door closed and do not touch or open anything except by following the instructions to turn off the power. This is also best done where it is quiet, as being able to listen to the machine can help, otherwise, pay attention to the time.

    • Release the brake pedal if it is depressed
    • Go to the home screen, bring up the service menu and select “Turn Off”.
    • After a while, the screens will go out, the interior lights will go out, and the system will turn off.
    • If you hear the car, you may still be hearing some background noises from the car. In this case, wait until the car is quiet.
    • If you can’t hear the car because of background noise, wait a few minutes, we recommend a minimum of 5 minutes – it seems long, but it’s worth making the car completely shut down.
    • Press the brake pedal to wake up the car.

Additional methods (not officially) how to reset tesla screen

Be sure to remember that if your hang-ups occur frequently, you need to contact a Tesla service center.

Their support is professional and will be able to sort out your specific case.

Even if one of the methods below will help your car – we still recommend registering the problem with Tesla, especially if it is under warranty.

·        Clear routing data

Your car keeps a history of your driving, and it is known that cleaning trip computers improve the stability of computers, especially if one of the onboard computers has a significant amount of history.

·        Delete previous destinations

Your car also saves satellite navigation locations that were used previously. They accumulate over time. You can delete them by removing them from the list.

·        Remove all USB devices

If you’re using a USB DVR or you have a USB drive with music, try uninstalling it. As with a trip computer, a large amount of data can cause problems, and in the case of music files, the car reads them and saves the information to make the contents available to the driver. If this fixes the problem, try reducing the number of files on the USB drive and see if that solves the problem while restoring the usefulness of the USB music.

·        Unplug your Bluetooth phone

Here you can see the template, if there are a lot of contacts on your phone, then they will be downloaded to the machine. Turning off your phone for a while will help determine if this is the problem.

Remember that none of the solutions listed above can guarantee you a smooth operation in the future. You should inspect the car and find out the exact cause of the failures to avoid or fix it.
